An Introduction (kind of)
Hmmm introduction already not going so hot. A few paragraphs written and deleted gives me cause to pause (+1pt for rhyme). Upon some reflection I realized that I can't just jump into this thing, and that I may need to plan it out a little for myself, and for you, the audience.
But first, I'm going to jump into this thing a little and say that I'm in Cartagena and it's too fucking hot here. At best, I am coping with the temperature / humidity. At worst, I don't even need to towel off after a shower because I'm always soaked with sweat. It is a battle to stay dry, and in my case it's not a battle worth fighting as it would leave little time for the splendor of travel. The positive way, and really the only sustainable way, to look at the situation would be to chalk up the coping to just being a part of travelling. It's tough and it has me thinking about the day very differently than if I was in Bogota (which is where I'm headed ASAP). Depending on how you travel, this coping is just part of the experience and it could be enjoyed just as much as a stroll around the walled district of Cartagena. Maybe coping isn't the right word, you tell me. Learning to cope is fun too - as an example, I took a shower this AM and took some dirty clothes with me to drown the two birds with a single stone (and a little bit of bar soap generously provided by some long gone traveler). I find myself wondering if I am the only person using this soap, or if my hostel homies are also hoarding their own soap in preparation for an imperfect future hostel where everyone remembers their belongings when they leave the shared bath. Either way, I've done a bang up job of the shower / launder combo and I'll be taking this practice (newly dubbed the "showder") to my ensuing hostels.
Back to the planning: I need to define my purpose for blogging, audience, and write a second posting at some point, TBD. I also want to actual talk about Cartagena's vibe, history, and food, but I'm too restless to keep sitting here any longer so that's coming in round 2.
Atentamente (Sincerely/Yours sincerely),
Simon
